What's New 2016
Arizona Form A-4.  Make sure to complete a new one each year.  This is now required to be completed every year.  Federal W-4 is also required to be completed every year.
 
Popular tax breaks that ended 2016 but were extended or made permanent 
 
   Extended through 12/31/16
   Cancellation of Home Mortgage Debt (up to $2 million)
   Qualified Mortgage Insurance Premiums treatment as mortgage interest
   Tuition and fees deduction of up to $4,000 (above the line)
   State Sales Tax deductions

   Educator Expenses - Above the line up to $250.00
   $500.00 (lifetime) tax credit for investment on energy efficiency expenditures

   Charitable transfers of up to $100,000 from an IRA directly to a charity (Made Permanent)   
 
Social Security wage base increases to $118,500.00 for 2015 and 2016. Wages paid in excess of $200,000 will be subject to an extra .9% Medicare tax that will only be withheld from employee wages. Wage base for 2016 remains at $118,500.00
 
Social Security Earnings.  Seniors who are 62 but not 66 yet and decide to collect SS  can earn up to $15,720. this year before they lose any benefits. For every $2.00 earned over limitation they will deduct $1.00 in benefits.  For 2017 the limit goes to $16,920.
